Achieve your goals with this 3-step reset routine
Have you ever reached the end of the year wondering where the time went and how you didn’t tick off one of your goals? Or maybe you find a crumpled piece of paper filled with things you set out to do but forgot all about them.
If this sounds like you then this 3-step reset routine will change your life. There is a bonus tip at the end.
It’s easy to forget about our goals and resolutions if they are not in front of us all the time (which is impossible because life happens). However, there are things you can do to make them take center stage in your life.
So, grab a pen and paper because class is in session…
Evaluate your performance.
The first thing you are going to do is evaluate your performance. I don’t care if you did one thing this whole year, or none. You are going to be brutally honest with yourself in this step.
The key here is to do it from a place of reflection, not judgment, you just want to know where you are so you can map out where you are going. Ask yourself:
- How did I do?
- Was it the best I could give?
- How was I emotionally?
- What am I most proud of?
- Where did I fall short?
Look ahead.
The second step is to look at what goal you want to focus on and how you will do it. I want you to look at the goals you wrote, pick out one, and write it on a second piece of paper. Then take that one goal, break it down into steps, and pick out what your priorities are going to be for the next week.
Focus only on what you can do in the week ahead, not next month or when inspiration hits. Let me give a practical example.
Goal- Start eating healthier.
Step one- Research healthy recipes.
Step two- Make a grocery list and go shopping.
Step three- Meal prep.
Start Tracking
I cannot stress enough how important it is to track your progress. Research has shown that those who track the progress of their goals are more likely to improve than those who don’t.
When you see that you’ve started and you are ticking off the steps, you feel motivated to keep going.
It will also give you a clear picture of what’s working and what’s not. Relying on memory will trick you into thinking you are doing more or less than what you actually are.
There are apps for tracking everything nowadays. Just search for what you need.
Bonus tip.
Do this routine every week. Once you start, come back to these 3 steps weekly. Have a specific journal or just open up a Google Doc and analyze your performance weekly.
Not only will this keep reminding you of your goal, but you will constantly see ways to improve and help you achieve your goals faster.
This year, I started doing this weekly and have ticked many things off my goals list.
I hope this helped, let me know in the comments if I should create a free template for this practice. Now go and smash those goals.
Until next time
