Science Laws that Motivate You

I consider myself to be an overachiever so my everyday To-do list is a mile high. This leads to some days where I feel overwhelmed and so unmotivated that all I want to do is lay in bed.

This morning, I was having one those days and I was in bed for hours. Then Newton's law of inertia came to my head and I jumped out of bed and suddenly things didn't seem so overwhelming anymore.

When we go through situations where we feel unmotivated, it might be easy to blame ourselves and think we are not doing our best. However, people have felt like this for years and scientists have discovered laws that explain our behaviors.

Aside from explaining our behaviors, these science laws will also motivate you. So without further ado, here are 3 science laws that are motivating.

Newtons Law of Inertia

This law states that an object in motion stays in motion and an object at rest stays at rest. This is probably why people get stuck procrastinating, because they haven't started.

Its easier to skip your workout when you are scrolling in bed. Likewise, it's easier to check things off your To-do list when you are up and moving.

To apply this law, just focus on starting with the smallest task to build your momentum.

  • Make your bed first thing in the morning
  • Write two lines of that essay
  • Fold one pair of pants
  • Read one page

Schrodinger's Cat

This thought experiment proposes that multiple possibilities can exist simultaneously.

It's a reminder that you have a number of options towards your goals. Stay open minded and don't restrict yourself to the plan you have in your head.

  • YouTube content creation is not working out for you, try TikTok
  • Your dream university rejected you, apply for another
  • You failed at running to lose weight, try an aerobics class

There are so many possibilities for you as long you stay open to them and remember than rejection is often redirection.

Planck's Quantum Theory

This theory says that energy is quantized, meaning that it's divided up into small units. Taken quite literally, this theory says that big things are made up of small things.

This is probably something you've heard a thousand times. Small consistent efforts adds up to significant results.

Break down your goals into small steps and you are more likely to achieve them instead of trying to tackle it all at once.

  • Increase 500 steps per week to reach 10k steps goal
  • Reduce screen time by 30 minutes a day to reach no social media all day goal
  • Do 5 squats per day to reach 100 squats per day.

Conclusion
You don't have to beat yourself up when you are falling behind schedule, you just need to understand some science to get moving. Thanks for reading, I hope that these laws have motivated and inspired you.

Until next time
